Last summer, (around July 2006)- the cam-belt snapped at Frickley off-road centre http://www.frickley4x4.co.uk resulting in bent push rods and a couple of cracked rockers.
June 2007 saw the need for a replacement Clutch, it had always had a noisy thrust bearing but this got worse and progressively more difficult to change gear. It finally went at Cowm off-road site near Rochdale and meant a drive home without the benefit off a clutch to change gears. Obviously a bit hairy at times, approaching roundabouts and the like.
July 2007 and on the way to Frickley, the cam-belt once again. Turns out that despite sealing the belt cover water must have got in, probably through the bottom pulley seal. I had failed to drain it off from time to time and paid the price. Rule xxx Don't leave the wading plug in on a permanent basis, better still, don't go wading.
Cam-belt all fixed with the help of Dave Kirby, http://www.hull4x4.co.uk/1.html and back on the road. A slight mis-hap whilst testing at korc: http://www.korc.co.uk/ off-road site saw a push-rod jump out the cam follower, probably because time constraints meant the tappet settings had not been properly checked. But tools out and a half hour in car park saw that all fixed. Moral, always properly adjust the tappets. Running very sweet at the moment and all ready for the w/e camping at Robin Hoods Bay.
13/8/07, brake warning light came on and checked the brake fluid level, losing fluid and it appears to be o/s/f, also noticed watery oil leak from n/s/f swivel seal. I'll need to get both front wheels off and check whats going on before any more off-road outings.
